Bangkok
Bangkok, known also as Krung Thep, is the capital, largest urban area and the most important city of Thailand. For two hundred years Bangkok has been the political, social and economic center of not only Thailand but for much of South East Asia and Indochina as well. The Chao Phraya River is Bangkok's main geographical feature. Thanks to the number of canals and passages Bangkok is sometimes nicknamed "Venice of the East".
Pattaya
Pattaya is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. Pattaya, which means the 'south-west monsoon wind", is ne of the most popular beach resorts in the world. In 2005 it was visited by some 5,4 million visitors. It enjoys a tropical wet and dry climate, the most comfortable time of year coincides with the peak tourist season, which is over the Christmas and New Year period.
Amphoe Koh Sa-mui
Ko Samui is Thailand's third largest island located in the south of Thailand in the Gulf of Thailand. Tourists can admire here white sandy beaches, coral reefs, beautiful lagoons and waterfalls. The original inhabitants of the island are predominantly Buddhist, most of whom now work in tourism. The most famous beaches are Chaweng Beach, Lamai Beach, Maenam Beach or Big Buddha Beach.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located approx. 700 km north of Bangkok. In recent years, Chiang Mai has become a modern city. Athough Chiang Mai is not as cosmopolitan as Bangkok, it has many attractions for its visitors such as museums or festivals. Chiang Mai is a historic city originally located on an ancient trade route.
Patong Beach
Patong Beach is the most popular and well-developed beach on Phuket Island. Long recognized as one of the world's Top 10 diving sites. The beach became popular with western tourists, especially Europeans, in the late 1980s. Phuket is now Thailand's most important tourist destination, offering a variety of beaches, attractions and exciting night life.
Karon Beach
Karon Beach, located on the west coast of Phuket island, is a beach and the town adjoining it. The beach is approx. 1.5 km long. Karon Beach is very popular tourist destination, it is much more quieter than neighbouring Patong Beach. Therefore it is visited rather by families and couples. Karon offers visitors a long stretch of white sand and some nice snorkeling and diving sites.
Kata Beach
Kata Beach is located on the west coast of island Phuket just a few minutes south of Karon Beach. Kata Beach is very popular with families as it is safe for children and non-swimmers. The beach is famous for its clear waters, white sands, beautiful palm-lined beach, coral reef and good restaurants.
